Woodley War Memorial Unveiled by HRH The Duke of York KG
15th July 2014
The Committee is extremely pleased and proud to have achieved its goal in this Centenary year of the outbreak of World War I. We would like to thank everyone who has contributed to the Project in any way.

The Project for a War Memorial for Woodley was born from the idea of Colin Lott a lifelong resident of Woodley; he is a retired police officer having served with Thames Valley Police achieving thirteen Red and Circuit Judge and Chief Constable commendations, a Certificate of Exemplary Conduct and a Long Service Medal.
A quote from Colin:
"Last November on Remembrance Sunday aftervisiting my parents’ grave, I then wished to stand next to a war memorial to pay my respects to the fallen of armed forces, present and past. I could not find a public memorial in Woodley. On discovering that Reading, Henley, Hurst, Woodcote, Swallowfield, Winkfield and many other areas have such a memorial. Woodley does not."
The aim of this project is to provide such a Memorial to commemorate all those from Woodley who fell in any of the wars and conflicts. It is a private venture by a group of like-
